EAST TENNESSEE, Sept. 14, 2017– On Thursday, Tennessee athletic director John Currie announced that Tennessee women’s sports team will be allowed to use the Lady Vols moniker. Teams will be allowed to use the Lady Vols name on uniforms starting in the 2018-19 year.
Congressional candidate Jimmy Matlock released the following statement in response to the decision:
“The Lady Vols logo has long been a symbol of excellence at the University of Tennessee. I am pleased to see that the administration of the University is taking the right steps to listen to the feedback of the fans, student-athletes, and our community,” said Matlock. “I also want to extend a very special thank you to State Representative Roger Kane who has led the fight on this issue from the get-go. I’m glad to see the Lady Vols are back!”
